The Blue Gem (Battle Mountain) Mine is located near Battle Mountain in Lander County, Nevada. The mine was opened in 1934 as the Battle Mountain mine it was changed to the Blue Gem Mine. This mine has produced a wide range of Turquoise from dark greens to dark blues. The Blue Gem Mine is known to be a particularly deep deposit of turquoise, with some mine shafts descending 800 feet. The turquoise found in the Blue Gem mine is some of the highest quality turquoise found in Nevada. Due to the depths of the shafts and pressures of the earth, Blue Gem turquoise is an extremely hard and some say gem grade turquoise (given the name Blue Gem). The Son and I do all the cutting work we never farm it out. We are Native American gem cutters, we are registered members of the federally recognized Native American tribe Wichita Indians out of Oklahoma. To be clear “100% NATURAL” it is all turquoise no backing was used If it just says “NATURAL” it is natural and backed with JB Weld. The photos in this listing are taken in natural sunlight on a white background. I do this because any color background except white can alter the colors in the photo. I realize Direct sunlight and white background is the worst possible conditions to photo in. I would rather have you say it looks so much better in hand then be disappointed when you get the stone. If you would like a photo in shade, just ask.
